Travel from Buffalo, Wyoming west towards Yellowstone National Park on route 16 will take you through the Bighorn National Forest. During this mountainous road journey you will come across Ten Sleep Canyon. This spectacular vista will make you have to stop at the sizable turn off and just take in the glory of this natural wonder.
Ten Sleep Canyon was formed by glaciers thousands of years ago. There is an information filled sign that explains the geology of the area. The sheer rock cliffs and the rushing stream in the bottom of the canyon are breathtaking to behold. This canyon is one of the most impressive that I have seen in my travels. I am surprised that Ten Sleep Canyon is not more noted than it is in travel publications.
Pictures do not due justice to this natural wonder. Check the Forest Service website for details about the Bighorn National Forest. More than one day is required to truly enjoy this area.
