Nadia Nixon, a 31-year-old strawweight fighting out of Topeka, Kansas, said on Jan. 23 in an exclusive interview with Long Island MMA Examiner Eric Holden that she'll be back in the cage in Feb.
Nixon generously gave up a few minutes of her time to weigh in on some of the most controversial topics in women's MMA, including wardrobe malfunctions, soccer kicks and using sex appeal to get ahead. Here's what she had to say:
Q. Invicta FC 4 featured a couple wardrobe malfunctions. Leslie Smith had a nip slip and Alexis Davis' thong popped out. Have you ever had a wardrobe malfunction in the cage? Do you do anything to prevent it from happening?
Nixon: I was there and actually saw it! It was kinda cute because it wasn't total chaos if you know what I mean, so I just laughed! I would say they were wearing kinda too low-rise tights? I always wear tight Under Armour shorts beneath my fight shorts, and no thongs!
Q. Since most MMA promotions have ring girls, do you think one of them should mix it up by featuring ring boys?
Nixon: I think that will be cool but it should be either for female bouts or for an all-female card like Invicta. I don't think many guys will want to see ring boys!
Q. Ronda Rousey said that having a lot sex before fights helps build her testosterone and makes her fight better. Do you take the same approach?
Nixon: Yes, It is natural. I mean it calms you down before any competition or in stressful situations, so its good to do so.
Q. Invicta's Ediane Gomes famously fought a man in her homeland of Brazil. Do you think there will ever come a time when men will fight women in a cage and it won't be considered taboo?
Nixon: Maybe down the road. I mean in Europe they had a girl who fought a guy. She got destroyed, but girls grapple boys in competitions and during training. So maybe?
Q. Desert Rage MMA recently had a two-on-two MMA match. What do you think about that?
Nixon: Two-on-two should only be in a self-defense situation. It doesn't have to be pretty against multiple attackers. You poke eyes, kick to the groin, bite and do whatever it takes. But when u do MMA, you kinda want to test your skills, so to me it's more a one-on-one sport.
Q. Invicta's Bec Hyatt recently said that one of her biggest fears is losing control of her bladder if she gets knocked out in a fight. She said she has seen fighters pee themselves after getting knocked out. Do you think that is a real thing that actually happens?
Nixon: It can actually happen. When you get choked out or knocked out, you lose control over some body functions, so it is possible.
Q. If you could change one rule in MMA, what would it be?
Nixon: If you do an illegal move, a fighter may only get one point deducted. The other fighter is already messed up, so maybe a stricter rule than just a one-point deduction, especially if the illegal move was done on purpose.
Q. So Ronda Rousey recently posed nude for ESPN the Magazine, and a lot of female MMA fighters are using sex appeal to enhance their careers. Would you ever pose nude if the opportunity presented itself?
Nixon: I personally wouldn't do it, but I don't have problem if other female fighters are comfortable doing it.
Q. When is your next fight?
Nixon: Feb. 2 in Topeka, Kan., Blue Corner in Kansas City in late-Feb. No opponent as of yet for either, but March 23 I fight Katalina Radtka in Kansas City.
