One of the best things about cruises is that they are available all year. So, whether it is during those long summer months or over the holidays, when you need a break, do something fun--take a cruise out of Baltimore.

As an avid cruiser for the last four years, I'm including a list why I suggest taking a cruise as opposed to other types of vacations such as hotels, resorts, visiting family, etc.

10 Cruising offers a smarter vacation package. Hotels may advertise special deals and time sharing resorts may offer a hefty discount, but a cruise package includes accommodations, taxes, port fees, most foods, entertainment, activities and more.

9 Guests have their choice of a variety of ships and itineraries. The largest cruise lines out of Baltimore are Carnival, Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity.

Celebrity cruises will no longer be available out of Baltimore as of late 2011.

Cruises from Baltimore sail to the Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada and the Caribbean.

8 Planned activities day and night. From aerobics to scrapbooking, dancing, and learning how to make those adorable animals out of towels, cruise activities offer a variety of classes for their guests. Some have a small fee, but many are included in your cruise package.

7 Nightly entertainment included in the cruise price. Musicals, comedians, magicians, dancing, and karaoke is available throughout the ship.

6 Children's activities are available during the day. Late night childcare is available for a fee.

'CARNIVAL CRUISE LINE offers its Camp Carnival program for children ages 2 and up.

CELEBRITY CRUISES has its X-Club for all ages of children, which are separated into groups with charming titles like Ship Mates and Celebrity Cadets.

ROYAL CARIBBEAN is also a very family-friendly cruise line which offers a variety of programs for children including its Fisher Price program for children as young as 6 months. The ship's Adventure Ocean program caters to children 3 years old and up.'
