Yesterday, Barack Obama gave a speech where he proposed a plethora of new gun control policies. He also signed 23 executive orders related to gun control. With the issue now at the forefront of hot political topics, here are ten facts that all Americans need to know about gun control:
1. Gun control violates the 2nd Amendment.
It doesn’t matter what progressives or the Supreme Court or anyone else spews about the canard that gun control is constitutional. There’s not a single American who doesn’t have the common sense to understand that the 2nd Amendment doesn’t give you the right to own a nuke, or a tank, or a rocket launcher.
When progressives screech with false indignation for “gun control,” what they are talking about is taking away our right to own anything that fires a bullet. What they call “assault weapons” are in fact normal guns such as rifles and handguns that Americans need to defend themselves against street thugs and against the tyrannical threat of the U.S. government.
The 2nd Amendment was ratified specifically so that Americans could defend themselves in such a manner, hence why it says, “The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.” Banning so-called “assault weapons” is an infringement of our constitutional right to own guns. If assault weapons are banned, than Americans will be left defenseless against both street thugs and the Stalinists like Obama that run the U.S. government.
2. Gun control is anti-American.
Not only does gun control illegally violate the 2nd Amendment, but it also destroys one of the finest traditions of American culture. Gun ownership is as American as apple pie. It’s just something that Americans do, particularly in the red states of Middle America. Tens of millions of Americans today own guns, and a large percentage of the country has always owned guns. The gun culture is part and parcel of living in the United States. No one has the right to change or alter that culture just because they don’t like it.
Americans own guns for self-defense and self-preservation more than anything else, but quite frankly, it doesn’t bloody matter why so many of us own them or want to own them. Progressives love to smear gun owners for being “insecure” and “chauvinist,” but that’s because they want to render conservative whites in red states helpless. This brings us to the next point:
3. Gun control is a Marxist tactic.
As patriotic Russian native Stanislav Mishin recently warned us in an article picked up by the American Third Position party:
[A]t one point, Russia was one of the most heavily armed societies on earth. This was, of course, when we were free under the Tsar. Weapons, from swords and spears to pistols, rifles and shotguns were everywhere, common items. People carried them concealed, they carried them holstered.
When the Bolsheviks seized Russia in 1917 and viciously murdered Czar Nicholas II and the entire Romanov family, a civil war ensued that wouldn’t have been possible if the Russian people didn’t own guns:
This well-armed population was what allowed the various White factions to rise up, no matter how disorganized politically and militarily they were in 1918 and wage a savage civil war against the Reds. It should be noted that many of these armies were armed peasants, villagers, farmers and merchants, protecting their own. If it had not been for Washington’s clandestine support of and for the Reds, history would have gone quite differently.
When the Bolsheviks defeated the Russian people, they deprived them of their right to defend themselves:
Of course being savages, murderers and liars does not mean being stupid and the Reds learned from their Civil War experience. One of the first things they did was to disarm the population. From that point, mass repression, mass arrests, mass deportations, mass murder, mass starvation were all a safe game for the powers that were. The worst they had to fear was a pitchfork in the guts or a knife in the back or the occasional hunting rifle. Not much for soldiers.
Mishin concludes that it’s not guns that progressives are after; it’s anyone who opposes their ugly, morally bankrupt ideology:
Do not be fooled by a belief that progressives, leftists hate guns. Oh, no, they do not. What they hate is guns in the hands of those who are not marching in lock step of their ideology. They hate guns in the hands of those who think for themselves and do not obey without question. They hate guns in those whom they have slated for a barrel to the back of the ear.
4. Gun control would have cost us the American Revolution against Great Britain.
Oh yes! If only the red coated soldiers of King George’s army could own guns, than the heroes that this nation admires – men like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson – would have been swiftly defeated and hanged for high treason. It was because Americans owned guns that the British colonizers were successfully resisted over a long, arduous war.
Indeed, it was the Revolutionary War that forged America’s gun culture. Those who wish to ban “assault weapons” make a despicable mockery of the heroes of the country they claim to serve. (Then again, this is no surprise given that those same people think the Founding Fathers were evil white racist slaveholders anyway).
5. The basic logic behind gun control is absurd.
The logic is that banning “assault weapons” will reduce violence and homicide because guns will be harder to attain, and thus harder to commit a crime with. But as history shows, banning alcohol in 1919 – otherwise known as prohibition – didn’t stop the importation and mass sale of alcohol throughout the 1920s. In fact, a deadly black market was created for alcohol that coincided with the rise of infamous mob bosses such as Al Capone.
Furthermore, if progressives insist that the war on drugs has failed, then why would a war on guns be any different? The self-evident answer is that it wouldn’t be. Progressives evidently support our “right” to get high off cocaine and heroin, but they don’t support our right to self-defense. Such is the bankrupt moral code of the left.
6. Gun control is one of the few issues that all conservatives agree on.
Whether its mainstream conservatives like Sean Hannity and his colleagues at Fox News, or paleoconservatives on the alternative right such as the Political Cesspool crew and Chuck Baldwin, gun control is one of the few issues that all conservatives agree on.
Whether its economics, social issues, cultural issues, or foreign policy, conservatives are deeply divided on what it is, exactly, that they stand for. Put it another way, conservatives can’t agree on what they are trying to conserve. But when it comes to gun control, conservatives of all stripes unanimously agree that the 2nd Amendment protects our right to own guns, and they are united in their disgust with progressives who shill for gun control.
7. Gun control does not reduce total homicide, or handgun homicide, or suicide.
Progressives continually spew the canard that more guns in the hands of citizens leads to more homicide overall, more homicide by handguns, and higher rates of suicide. But a look at the raw statistics completely blows that lie out of the water. In fact, when the supply of guns per 1,000 persons increased between 1967 and 2003, the rate of total homicide, handgun homicide, and suicide all decreased. A correlation between more guns and more crime doesn’t exist. Neither does a correlation exist between fewer guns and less crime.
8. The empirical evidence that gun control doesn’t work is settled.
Whether it’s an analysis of the literature review of gun control studies, the amazing yearly work provided by Guy Smith’s Gun Facts series (his 2012 edition can be found here), or the famous book published by John Lott (More Guns, Less Crime), there is absolutely no evidence that gun control works, and there is all the evidence in the world to suggest that gun freedom leads to a safer society.
Even the Marxist propaganda group that is MSNBC published a report in March 2010 which shows that more guns in the hands of citizens results in fewer firearms deaths. As progressives love to say about global warming, the science on the failure of gun control is settled.
9. Contrary to the claims of progressives, John Lott has not been discredited.
Lott is the most popular of the pro-American gun rights activists because his research was the most empirically sophisticated. He was featured heavily in the mainstream media in the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy. When Lott published More Guns, Less Crime, several far left “researchers” such as John Donahue (he of the phony study purporting to discredit the death penalty) attacked his work. But despite their efforts, Lott’s detractors have yet to disprove him:
Another form of criticism is deliberate misinterpretation of some of the statistics. For example, looking at the table above, if you increase the income of a neighborhood, Lott's statistics show car theft increasing. Rich people steal more cars? Some critics use this sort of example to illustrate Lott's method must be flawed as it produces an absurd result. Lott doesn't provide an explanation for every statistic. He just lets his computer churn on the FBI numbers, and reports what the computer finds. He does, however, often provide common sense responses to numbers his critics claim as absurd. In this case, rich people have more valuable cars. Car thieves tend to go to richer counties to commit their crimes. The statistics are gathered by the location where the crime was reported, not where the criminal lives.
10. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.
This is not just a well-worn cliché. It’s got statistical proof to back it up. When Media Matters had a conniption fit over Ann Coulter’s argument that America has a demographic problem, not a gun problem, Patrick Cleburne of VDARE wrote a post which included the following quote from another source:
[I]t seems that race/ethnicity is a very good predictor of homicide rate. It is very hard to make an honest case that gun ownership is much of a factor at all in causing homicides. The evidence suggests that people(s) kill people, not guns. In heavily armed Switzerland, white USA, Serbia etc., the homicide rate is low. In mostly disarmed Netherlands, Poland and Italy, the homicide rate is also low. The common factor here is the European background.
In sub-Saharan African areas with more guns (Equatorial Guinea, Angola), homicide rates are high. In sub-Saharan African areas that have very few guns (Ghana, Ethiopia, Eritrea, in fact most of sub-Saharan Africa) homicide rates are also high. The common factor here is the sub-Saharan racial background.
In other words, the left’s favorite target of demonization when it comes to gun control – conservative white Christians, mostly from the South – is completely innocent. “But Poole, all the mass shooters are white!” No, actually, they aren’t. The idea that America has a problem of white people going on mass shootings is a liberal myth – one of many anti-white myths progressives constantly spew.
In conclusion, Obama’s gun control efforts will be colossal failures. Just like his entire ideology, his gun control policies are based on discredited and morally repugnant premises. He has no respect for the 2nd Amendment or the American culture of gun ownership. He hates both and seeks to annihilate both, just like all progressives do. But once again, the facts are not on his side. He has chosen gun control as his first battle of 2013, and hopefully it’s a battle that the traditional American majority wins.
