Following yesterday's gas explosion in San Bruno, the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA (PHS/SPCA) is offering temporary sheltering, pet food and supplies for pets belonging to residents who are displaced from their homes.
For pets requiring immediate veterinary care, the emergency veterinary clinic closest to San Bruno is located in San Mateo at 227 North Amphlett Boulevard. The phone number is 650.348.2575.
PHS/SPCA has two humane officers stationed at the Red Cross trailer located at 251 City Park Way to assist families seeking shelter, food or supplies for their pets. As of 10:30 last night, staff accepted one dog for temporary sheltering.
There are two other Bay Area animal shelters available to provide temporary sheltering for displaced pets should the needs exceed PHS/SPCA's resources.
PHS/SPCA is located at 12 Airport Boulevard in San Mateo.
A ruptured gas line caused a massive explosion in a quiet neighborhood in San Bruno yesterday evening. This is a developing story. News reports as of late last night show at least 45 homes lost and 25 people hurt.

The fire had occurred just a couple miles from where I reside I saw a lot of stray cats and dogs while I was driving home last night.
They are the silent victims during these type of tragedies and it's during these times the Pennisula Humane Society, rescue organizations and animal shelters are needed the most. Today I will be taking my dog with me to volunteer and donate to the Pennisula Humane Society as well as their partner rescue organizations. We hope to help get as many as these lost cats and dogs who have been displaced from their homes, safe and back to their families and provide care for rescued animals as well.
