Planning a trip to Gatlinburg or the surrounding areas? Certain road and facilities closures may affect your travel plans. Here’s the latest constructions and closures:
Newfound Gap Road (US – 441)
The month of August – Recent closures due to a landslide reduced travel on Newfound Gap Road between Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Cherokee, North Carolina to one lane. According to available sources, the landslide has been cleaned up and normal travel has been restored.
September 2-30 – Morton Overlook on the Tennessee side will reduce travel to a one lane road with flaggers. This is near the upper tunnel. Flaggers will be directing traffic through this portion of the park with expectations of up to 10 minutes of delay.
Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail
This trail will be closing on the evening of October 31, 2014. The official opening date is set at April 30, 2015. The reason for this closure is a replacement of 8 bridges along the roadway. All traffic is restricted including for hiking and biking. If you had plans to visit this trail during this time, please make other plans.
Look Rock Campground and Picnic Area
Closed with no explanation.
Foothills Parkway – Walland and Wears Valley
This unfinished section of road is officially closed to all public use for construction purposes. The road is estimated to reopen in 2015.

• Use speed limits, especially when driving through mountainous, curvy terrain.
