A team of two best friends attending Temple University are traveling across the U.S. on the wheels of a 2012 MAZDA3 to begin filming their documentary, “Be Who You Are.” Their journey alone is called Jon and Levi Adventure.
Levi Schenk and Jon Ristaino left this morning from Avondale, Pa. just before 8:00 a.m. Their first destination is Cleveland, where they have scheduled to interview two people who have overcome life-altering obstacles.
Schenk and Ristaino were inspired by their own life experiences; Schenk lost over 100 lbs and Ristaino dealt with bullying because he's gay.
"I was bullied a lot in middle school and early high school, which had a big impact on my confidence for many years. Just because we are aware of something doesn't make it any better. We need to show people how to stop and that everyone has their own struggles they are dealing with," said Ristaino.
Ristaino is most interested in shedding light on bullying, while Schenk wants to focus more on education.
"Until I got to college, I had no value in education... I think it's important for kids to be properly educated in healthy eating and in the value of their education. Once you learn how to seek information... your life takes a drastic turn because you then search for the answers," said Schenk.
Together, the team plans to illustrate social issues and promote individuality. The ultimate goal is to make a positive change in society.
