Temple Field Hockey (12-4) has been nationally ranked among the top 20 NCAA Division I schools for seven straight weeks. The Owls broke into the rankings on September 10th at #11 and the lady Owls currently sit at #17 after the latest coach’s poll. They have dropped one position since last week despite winning their past two games.
On Friday October 25 at 3 pm, the Georgetown Hoyas will take the trip to Philadelphia to square off against the Owls in their last home contest. This will be Temple’s senior day where they will honor Lauren Hunt and co-captains Molly Doyle and Mandi Shearer.
Currently, Temple sits fourth in the Big East with a conference record of 3-2. Only the top four teams will make it to the Big East tournament that is to be hosted by UConn on November 8 and 10.
Considering the teams above them in the Big East standings are also ranked, their last few games of the regular season are of the utmost importance for the Owls. Although Georgetown has not had a productive season with a 2-15 overall record, this matchup could be a trap game that causes Temple to miss the cut for the Big East tournament.
Temple’s last game will be on the road against a Connecticut team that is currently ranked fourth in the nation. The Owls have already upset Penn State this season on the road that was ranked #6 during their meeting. Considering the team is on a hot streak, it is very likely that the Owls will win their remaining games of the regular season.
It will not come without hard work and perseverance though. And at the very least their game with the Huskies will be a great tune up for the Big East tournament.
The Temple defense has been stout all year as the Owls rank second in the nation with a save percentage of .833. If their offense can continue to produce, this Temple Field Hockey team will remain ranked for the remainder of the regular season and the Owls will succeed in the Big East Tournament.
