Tempe Little Theatre opens its 2010-11 season on September 17 with The Kitchen Witches by Caroline Smith. The delicious comedy, directed by Jack White, will run through October 3.

The Kitchen Witches, winner 2005 Samuel French Canadian Play Contest, is the comic story of Isobel Lomax and Dolly Biddle, two "mature" cable-access cooking show hostesses who have hated each other for thirty years. Isobel makes a surprise appearance on the final episode of Baking with Babcha, hosted by Dolly. Sparks fly between the two cooks, delighting TV viewers and, presto, a new cooking show featuring both is born. Dolly’s son and the show’s producer, quickly becomes mired in the middle of these two incompatible TV cooking divas. The fur and the food flies frantically in this slapstick comedy. What ensues are insults and food fights and a dark secret revealed from their mutual past. Imagine a cross between the Martha Stewart Show and the Jerry Springer Show and you have strong inkling of what it's all about.

Both Dolly and Isobel are delectable, daffy drama queens in this tart soufflé, seasoned with generous sprinklings of insult humor, culinary puns and double entendres. We, the audience, become their studio audience for their train-wreck of a dysfunctional cooking show.

The Kitchen Witches co-stars two of the Valley's most popular and accomplished actresses, Janis Webb as Dolly and Shari Watts as Isobel, the two delightful, dueling, domestic divas. Also featured in the cast are Will Hightower, Andy Jacobs and Jillyn Jacobs. The scenic design is by Sharon Gonwa with Emily Rubin and Joe Navan the messy-chic kitchen costumiers.
