The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) said this evening that 81,098 people in the eastern part of the state are without power, including 20,467 in Knoxville.
TEMA said that the fast moving winter storm dropped 1 to 4 inches of snow in the lower elevations and 8 inches and more in the higher elevations. Freezing rain fell in Knoxville this afternoon before it changed to snow and made road conditions hazardous. TEMA said that traffic accidents and power outages are its primary concerns.
TEMA said it hasn't received any reports of stranded motorists, but said that there were numerous reports of wrecked and abandoned vehicles along I-28 and I-81. TDOT is working with first responders to clear wrecks and check on motorists. TEMA said that for highway emergencies, motors should dial *847 for their nearest Tennessee Highway Patrol location.
Tennessee remains in a State of Emergency, which was declared on Jan. 15, due to ice and snow in middle and West Tenn. and flooding in East Tenn.
