Telltale Games’ ‘Game of Thrones’ series will span several years and titles

Officially confirmed during this year’s VGX awards, Telltale Games is currently developing games based upon the hit HBO television show, Game of Thrones. New details about the deal was released by PR Newswire on Dec 9 when it was revealed that the arrangement between HBO and Telltale Games will give the developer rights to produce an on-going Game of Thrones series of games that will span multiple titles over the course of several years.

Following the formula that won the studio critical acclaim with their Walking Dead titles, Telltale Games’ take on Game of Thrones will unfold via episodic content releases in which the decisions made in one episode will affect the outcome of the next. While it has been confirmed that the video game series will be directly based off of the HBO show rather than the source books, no details have been given at this time as to when the games will be set. This means that the Telltale series could retell events that have transpired on the television program or it could choose to follow different characters or simply take place during a different time period from the world of Westeros.

The first Game of Thrones title from Telltale Games is scheduled to release in 2014.
