The Taft Museum of Art current exhibit is called Telling Tales: Stories and Legends in 19th-Century American Art.
The exhibit consists of 46 paintings and seven sculptures spanning American's colonial period through the Civil War. The themes of the exhibit span from everyday life of American Indians, farmers, pilgrims, to religious symbols and details the importance of American narrative art in our culture.
Several great American artists paintings are included in this exhibit with works by Benjamin West, William Sidney Mount, and Eastman Johnson. Many of the works are being shown for the first time in decades. This exhibition was organized by the New-York Historical Society.
