Usually, when The Story League hosts events, which are like attending a LIVE NPR “This American Life” episode--with cocktails, they feature their own vibrant raconteurs, to sold-out audiences in hipster joints throughout DC. However this Thursday, they are trying something different at the 14th St and V Busboys and Poets: The Story League is inviting everyone (even your auntie!) to compete in a “story contest” with a $100 prize for “best” story!
What does this entail exactly? Well, bring your best, original and most importantly, TRUE (this is Washington DC, home of the CIA, so don’t think you can pull a fast fiction of them!) story, no longer than 7 minutes. Expect to get on stage and read it OUT LOUD to a room full of strangers! Sound like fun, or your worst nightmare? No worries, if you are shy, use this mantra: I will never see these people again--except for (insert name of friend.)
There is no pre-enrollment required, so just show up, at 9 pm sharp, with your story! Three “expert” judges will be, well…judging the stories. Admission is $10, but who knows you might walk out with $100! So start thinking about which story you want to share now!
Disclaimer: Like the lottery, must be present to WIN!
