TELEVISION- The Good, the Bad, and the Inevitable

Television is one of the most significant inventions of our time.

When I think of television and the power of this invention, memories of growing up without it come to mind. Before TV was invented, life was about doing outdoor activities, creating, interacting with other people, and learning from real everyday life events.

Then came television and its seductive entertainment and manipulation of our brain. TV has been able to transform each one of us into non-thinking zombies. Television has the power to change minds, opinions, to make people indifferent, and to keep everyone stagnant.
The power that comes with having the world's attention is scary. Television has been able to start and stop wars, keep the world informed and misinformed, and transform the world into a gullible puppet.

Regardless of all opinions about television, some will say that there are positive aspects of the invention, such as the ability to educate. This invention has helped people from all walks of life, which have not been able to travel the world, learn about other cultures, and see how similar we humans are. TV can teach us about plants, animals, the universe, different skills, and many other subjects. Moreover TV, via entertainment, can make a routine life more bearable and exciting. It can also encourage imagination and bring families together.
However, there are some negative aspects that cannot be overlooked. Television unfortunately encourages indifference and laziness, discourages knowledge-seeking behavior and thought, and increases obesity and violence amongst its viewers. Having your mind fed constantly with information, images of violence, and entertainment can be desensitizing.

The constant feed of information can succor people to lose their ability to differentiate between fantasy and reality; it creates a new perception of the truth.

To concatenate my thoughts, television is an amazing invention that changed the world and brought us together with its charm. It is a secret weapon with the ability to make the world chaos, a consumable drug that no one can stop. It has the ability to make the world its best or its worst.
