The new art studio, Telegraph, will hold its grand opening this Friday, March 1, 2013, with the gallery show, Monstrous. Twenty more galleries and other art spaces, will also participate in Charlottesville’s monthly First Fridays event; openings begin between 5:00-6:00 PM, and festivities generally wrap up between 7:00-8:00 PM. Telegraph will remain open until 10:00PM.

According to Telegraph’s website, Monstrous, the “inaugural show…features new, exclusive screen printed posters from a handpicked selection…of artists.” The new gallery is located on the Downtown Mall on Fourth Street, between O’Suzannah and The Cville Smoke Shop (110 Fourth St. NE).

Why not make this month’s First Fridays a time for trying new things? Check out Monstrous at the newest studio in town, Telegraph, and then maybe hit the opening at Random Row Books (315 W Main Street), featuring works in oil by Albemarle County Regional Jail residents, simply entitled ACRJ Inmate Art.

Second Street (115 Second St. SE) offers works in video and sculptures, The Stand (Possessing Powers). Lynn Goldman’s studio (407 E Main St.) offers pottery, batik textiles and jewelry while Chroma Projects (418 E. Main St.) features paintings from a recent trip to Bhutan.

And for the history buff, Jefferson-Madison Regional Library (201 E. Market) presents The Photography of Ed Roseberry, a slideshow of Charlottesville from the 1940s-1970s. (This Google Map may help with orientation and location of galleries.)
