The Manchester Millrats announced today that their head coach for the upcoming 2009-10 season will be Heath Teixeira.

Teixeira has been an assistant coach with the Millrats since their inaugural season. He has served under former head coaches Rob Spon (2008-09) and Larry Lessett (2007-08). Prior to joining the Millrats staff he served as an assistant coach with the Cape Cod Frenzy and appeared in several games as a player with the Boston Frenzy.

The upcoming games for this season will not be Teixeira's first time as a head coach. In the Millrats first road game in 2007 coach Lessett was ejected early in the 2nd quarter. Trailing 41-14, Teixeira with a short bench orchestrated an amazing come from behind win against the Vermont Frost Heaves.

In the early nineties, as a player, Teixeira was a point guard for the Harwich (Cape Cod) Roughriders that appeared in back to back Massachusetts state championship games at the old Boston Garden under legendary Cape Cod Coach Glen Rose.

"Coach Teixeira has been with us since the inception and knows what we are trying to do here, and how to do it," said Millrats GM Ian McCarthy. "He has grown as a professional and as a person while working as an assistant and we feel he is now ready for the position."

As new coach for the defending Atlantic Division champions, Teixeira knows what is expected and is up for the challenge.

"I'm looking forward to continuing to help train and develop young players, to help foster their career overseas, and to help the Millrats be prepared to execute and win PBL games," stated Teixeira.

The process of filling the new roster is set to begin on September 27th in Rockville, MD. The coaching staff as well as members of the front office will be attending the PBL's national tryout combine, looking for talent. Then on October 24th and 25th the Millrats will be hosting their own Combine for the second year in a row at Sports Zone in Derry, NH, an event that is open to the public. Also in October the PBL will be holding a draft in Chicago, IL.
