Fighting Jon Jones is no fun. Just ask the countless UFC fighters who have done it. Most recently, Glover Teixeira took a beating at the hands of the champion. And his coach, Jon Hackleman, was surprised at just how bad the damage was. Speaking to Fightline.com, the head trainer at The Pit described the extent of it:
“I’ve never seen Glover lose a fight like this. I’ve never seen Glover bleeding. Glover hurt his right shoulder really bad in the first round. The first round. That’s not an excuse because Jon hurt his shoulder.
“Jon hurt Glover’s shoulder in the tie up on the clinch against the cage, tweaked his shoulder and he hurt it. Glover couldn’t use his right hand very well. He never said he has an actual torn ligament or tendon, so we find that out after. It was disfigured and swollen.”
As Dana White always jokes, so you wanna be an Ultimate Fighter? While the extent of Teixeira’s injuries are still unknown, assume the Brazilian will be out for a few months at least. The loss was only the third of his pro career however and the Florida native could possibly earn a rematch with four or five consecutive wins. Jones, on the other hand, will now defend his belt against Alexander Gustafsson, time and date still TBD.
