Teens charged in Locust Valley home burglary

Two teens from Glen Cove are facing felony charges in connection with a burglary at a home in Locust Valley, Nassau County police said Thursday.

Second Squad detectives arrested two 17-year-olds, Gregory Czaplicki and Taylor Steed on Wednesday after Glen Cove Police reportedly notified the detectives of a possible burglary on Cross Street.

According to investigators, Czaplicki climbed through an unlocked window of a home on Cross Street in Locust Valley around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cops said once inside, allegedly removed numerous electronic devices, including a laptop computer, as well as coins and sneakers.

Around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, Glen Cove Police were on routine patrol when an officer spotted a parked stolen vehicle. When officers approached the vehicle, they found Steed asleep in the car with several items removed from the home on Cross Street.

Glen Cove cops charged Steed with criminal possession of stolen property and criminal possession of a controlled substance. Steed reportedly told officers that Czaplicki had burglarized the Cross Street home.

Czaplicki was arrested late Wednesday and is scheduled to be arraigned on a single felony count of second-degree burglary at First District Court in Hempstead on Thursday.

Court records show Steed was arraigned Tuesday and was conditionally released to the custody of the probation department. He is due back in court on Jan. 7.
