According to Tuesday's ABC 30 News, a homeless man and his dog were attacked by vicious thugs in Fresno, Calif., on Monday night.

The brutal attack, dealt by teens who are also suspected gang members, left the 45-year-old homeless man injured and his small dog, "Snoopy," who had been tucked into the man's backpack, dead.

Lt. Jose Garza with the Fresno Police Department stated:

For gang members they really don't need a reason to victimize people, they do it, that's what they do,

"They surrounded him and started kicking knocked him to the ground."

He added:

"They took the dog out of the backpack and repeatedly kicked the dog and ended up killing it,"

The victimized man, who was able to flee from the scene, later identified two teenage men as the ones responsible for the attack. Following that identification, police arrested 18-year-old Alejandro Lopez and a 16-year-old male whose name has not been released.

Other people are believed to have been involved in the deadly attack and police are hoping that witnesses will step forward to help identify them as well.

The two young males who were arrested are facing charges for assault with a deadly weapon and cruelty to animals.
