Columbia, SC - Recently, Pit bulls have been the target of thieves who have repeatedly broken into the Columbia animal shelter.
Today, thanks to the recent installation of security cameras at the facility, police have arrested two people who they believe are responsible for the dogs (over a dozen) who have disappeared from the shelter.
According to WSPA News, police arrested a 17 yr-old and a 13 yr-old. They are still searching for two other individuals believed to be involved in the theft ring.
After arresting the teens, the police went to a property in Barwell County where they discovered 17 Pit bulls.
The dogs are being evaluated by the authorities - according to the WSPA publication, there are only minor injuries reported.
It is believed that the stolen dogs were being sold for dog-fighting.
Had the security cameras not been installed and the identity of the thieves not determined, the fate of these dogs would have likely been dismal - the heartwrenching reality is that death at the hands of brutal dog fighters would be worse than death at an animal control facility.
