Teens and gonorrhea

As if the worry of Aids, HIV, syphilis and herpes were not enough to keep on your teen about either abstaining from sex or having safe sex; there is now a stronger strand of gonorrhea to worry about. What makes this strand so interesting you may wonder….its incurable. Yes you read correctly….INCURABLE.

In case you did not know gonorrhea is the one of the most common sexually transmitted disease that infects sexually active people on a regular basis. If left untreated, it can cause spontaneous abortion, painful urination. Those are just some of the symptoms. Did you know there are more than 106 million people infected with gonorrhea every year?

According to the CDC In 2010, gonorrhea rates were highest among adolescents and young adults. In 2010, the highest rates were observed among women aged 15–19 years (570.9) and 20–24 years (560.7). Among men, the rate was highest among those aged 20–24 years (421.0). Please note that the numbers in the parenthesis are in the millions!

Please talk to your teens about being protected, show them pictures. Google it, nothing like a visual aid to help you in keeping your teens health!
