Hamilton County Judge Norbert Nadel sentenced three teenagers to prison today. The trio—Dequantez Nixon, 17, Brendon Washington, 17, and Tyshawn Barker, 16, each received a 25-year- to- life sentence.
The court tried the three as adults.
Judge Nadel referred to the crimes as senseless random acts of violence and said the teenagers did not seem remorseful for their crimes.
The trio killed Rudell Engelmon in October 2011 and then Carrielle Conn, who was with them when they killed Engelmon. They killed Conn fearing she would discuss the murder with police.
The teenagers originally planned to kill another man but mistakenly killed Englemon.
After killing Carrielle Conn and leaving her body near railroad tracks, the teens gave one another high fives over the body. An Engelmon relative said that she wanted the court to make an example of the three killers.
