MTV released the season 4 opening sequence of “Teen Wolf” on Monday, June 16, exactly one week before the June 23 premiere date. Yes, the season 4 premiere of the supernatural show is less than one week away! (Don't forget to click the link to see the video.)
In the sequence, Scott (Tyler Posey) now has a closeup of his eye turning red as he pounds a pile of sand wearing a jean jacket. Stiles (Dylan O’Brien) has an updated sequence with him hard at work solving the mysteries of Beacon Hills with the help of his strings strewn all over his room.
There is still plenty of skin in the opener, so fans can rejoice. Much of that skin belongs to Derek (Tyler Hoechlin) whose sequence is pretty much the same. Lydia’s (Holland Roden) sequence like Derek’s hasn’t changed too much.
Allison’s (Crystal Reed) sequence has been removed due to her character’s heroic death near the end of last season. Two new female characters from last season have now been added to the main title sequence. Malia (Shelley Hennig) looks like she’s walking through a cave or trying to find a pathway under a tree, and Kira (Arden Cho) is wielding her trusty katana.
The overall tone of the sequence has a golden, warmer tone than the past two seasons. Desert sand seems to play a big part. A desert landscape is the final shot of the sequence.
The sandy landscape could have something to do with the season kicking off with the teens in Mexico following a two-month time jump. “It’s a mission to find and save Derek,” executive producer Jeff Davis revealed to E! News.
Davis also previewed to E! News, “We have a new central mystery this season and we're doing something different in we're not introducing a whole new mythology. We're basing this mystery in something very personal actually, something that hits at the heart of all our main characters, Scott, Stiles and Lydia, and Derek, especially. This is going to be a big season for Derek. I think people are going to be surprised.”
There will still be plenty of bloodshed. Just check out the trailer for season 4. However, according to the stars of the hit werewolf show, there will be a change in tone for this coming season.
“Season 4 so far is a lot like Season 1 was,” Dylan O’Brien said in a video via MTV News. “It’s sort of, like, stripped down from all the craziness that went on in Season 3.”
Tyler Posey agrees, “It’s funnier. It’s slower-paced — it’s more of, like, an action/adventure/comedy.”
O’Brien also revealed that the buddy-buddy scenes between his character, Stiles, and Scott will return this season. Yay! (Hopefully Derek will be included in some of that banter too!)
“Teen Wolf” returns Monday, June 23 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
