Alexis Valdez, 18, has confessed to decapitating a man in Chicago on Christmas morning, according to the Chicago Tribune on Friday. Alexis admitted killing his aunt’s boyfriend with a hammer and then dismembering the body. He put the man’s head on his aunt’s bed.
Valdez, who is ordered held without bond after his court date on Friday, said he wanted to leave his aunt a present. According to the report, when Valdez called 911 early Wednesday morning to report a death, the 911 dispatcher asked him if he had attempted CPR on the victim. At that suggestion, Valdez laughed and said that the victim didn't have a head.
Silvestre Diaz-Hernandez, 41, was the victim in the grisly event.
Officers who arrived at the scene following the 911 alert reportedly found Valdez entrenched in blood in a basement apartment located in the 2500 block or North Kildare Avenue on Chicago’s Northwest side.
According to Assistant State’s Attorney Kingsley Sawyers who was present at the court hearing, Valdez lived with his aunt and the victim. Valdez was supposed to be working to help the couple with expenses.
Reportedly, Valdez had stopped working and there were arguments about finances which resulted in Valdez being asked to leave.
On Tuesday night, Valdez went out for a drink with Diaz-Hernandez. When they came back to their apartment, Valdez took a hammer that he had hidden there and struck Diaz-Hernandez. He hit Diaz-Hernandez so hard that he put a hole in his skull. He cut his head off as well as an arm, his nose and ears - then he gouged his eyes out.
Valdez also told police that he would have killed his aunt too, but she was at a party. Valdez was charged with first-degree murder and held without bond.
