After the shooting, it was their 18-year-old daughter, Lisa Kepler, who turned her parents in after she witnessed the shooting death of her boyfriend. She run away as soon as her father shot Lake and her father shot at her, but the bullet missed, according to the New York Times.

Lisa told the media that after the shooting she called the police and “I turned my dad in.” Both Shannon and Gina Kepler turned themselves in to police accompanied by an attorney. They surrendered at the same police department where they had worked for the past 24 years. The two were put on “paid administrative leave,” but being held without bail pending the filing of formal charges.

Shannon Kepler was booked on a complaint of first-degree murder and Gina Kepler was arrested on a complaint of accessory to murder after the fact. Their daughter, Lisa Kepler said that she hopes her parents “both rot in jail.”

Lisa Kepler, 18, claims her parents had kicked her out of their home last week and she was staying with Lake. Her parents did not even know Lake, said the distraught daughter, who lost both her parents and her boyfriend due to one horrendous act by two law enforcement officers, who happen to be her parents. With her boyfriend dead and her parents likely to go to jail for this crime, the teen is facing a big loss.

The body of Jeremy Lake was found in the street in front of his house. Lisa said that while she and Lake were walking a black SUV pulled up and her father got out yelling. Lisa walked away, but Jeremy was trying to introduce himself and “my dad shot him.” She ran and hid behind a bush after her father fired shots at her. He then got back in the SUV and sped away.

During the confrontation on the street, Lisa took off running and her father fired at her, but the bullet missed, confirmed police department spokesperson Jillian Roberson. At a press conference Lisa Kepler said she had no idea what prompted her parents to do this because “they didn’t even know Jeremy.”

Both Keplers are 24-year veteran police officers with the Tulsa Police Department. Their daughter said that last week her parents dropped her off in front of the homeless shelter and told her not to come home. This is where she met Jeremy. He invited her to stay with him and his aunt so she didn't have to stay in the shelter.
