An 18-year-old man is wanted for murder after another teen’s body was found in the roadway at an intersection in Griffin.
Police said the 19-year-old was shot to death after fleeing a party nearby and the one who they believe killed him was Mr. Javarious Leondre Verdell, of 725 Turner St.,
The investigation began at 12:14 a.m. when officers responded to North 9th Street and West Tinsley after getting a call about a man down who appeared to have been shot, according to Griffin police.
Officers found Mr. Ivan Matthew Sierra’s body in the roadway, police spokesman Capt. Dwayne Jones said. The man had died of an apparent gunshot wound, he said.
They also found a weapon near the scene, but police did not provide a description.
Police have identified Mr. Verdell as the murder suspect. Warrants for murder and additional charges have been issued for his arrest, Capt. Griffin said.
”Investigators believe that the shooting stemmed from a fight at a nearby party minutes earlier,” Capt. Jones said.
Still, it’s unclear what the argument was about.
