Teen arrested after posting on Facebook about drunk-driving accident

An Oregon teen named Jacob Cox-Brown has apparently updated his Facebook status to let his friends know that he accidentally hit a car while he was driving drunk on New Year's Eve, according to a report.

According to a news channel in Oregon, two people (surprisingly Jacob's friends)anonymously tipped off local authorities in the Astoria area about the Facebook post at a time when police officers were investigating a two car hit-and-run crash incident that happened on New Year's Eve.

Back to Jacob Cox-Brown, 18, what happened was, he updated his Facebook status and wrote: "Drivin drunk...classsic;) but to whoever's vehicle i hit i am sorry.:P"

After the tip, officers were dispatched to Cox-Brown's house where they discovered a vehicle that had damage matching that of the victims' cars from the hit-and-run incident. The car was registered to Cox-Brown.

Cox-Brown was then immediately arrested and charged with two counts of failing to perform duties of a driver.

However, the said teen was not charged with drunken driving because the Facebook post is not sufficient evidence that he was intoxicated at the time of the incident.

In a press release the police wrote: "When you post on Facebook, you have to figure that it is not going to stay private long."

To those people who are reading this article right now, here's hoping that you get the moral lesson of this story. Never, never flaunt your foolish and irresponsible behavior on Facebook. In other words, think twice before you post something on any social media platform, especially Facebook.

This is an absolute, classic Facebook fail, although FB didn't do anything wrong here...it just happened to be a messenger of a very reckless action done by an impulsive teen in this particular instance.

In regards to Jacob and his friends...I wonder if they're still gonna remain friends after this rather unfortunate incident? My wild guess is a big "NO". What do you think? Feel free to share your valuable opinions/thoughts about this story in the comment section below.
