The weather was near ideal for the 18th Annual Saturday in the Park 5K held on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Holmdel Park in Holmdel, NJ. There was a bit of a chill in the air prior to the race like an early fall day. As the 9 AM race time approached the sun came out and temperatures were in the low 70’s with just a slight breeze.

The runners lined up at the start with Jersey Shore Running club’s Dawn Ciccone singing the national anthem before the order was given to start. Phil Hinck gave directions to the runners and gave the order to start. From the starting line it was a long climb up hill and then into the woods with some nice shade to keep the runners comfortable. Once up the hill they then circumvented the famous or infamous “bowl” with some challenging hills. From there they entered the woods again and made their way down hill mostly but along some challenging trails. As they came out of the woods the runners could see the finish line about a half mile on the open field and for most it was a welcome sight.
