A teen sues parents after they try to force her into having an abortion. On Feb. 14, New York Daily News reported that a 16-year-old Texas girl has filed a lawsuit against her parents because they want her to have an abortion. The girl is 9 weeks pregnant and claims that she has been physically assaulted by family members. When she told her parents that she didn't want to abort her baby, they allegedly kept her from going to school and forced her to get two jobs.
The lawsuit even claims that the girl's parents "invited the paternal grandparents to a bar for further discussion, where she suggested that she might slip her an abortion pill through deception" (via New York Daily News).
When a teen sues her parents, most people would immediately think it was over something trivial -- but this girl is standing up for what she believes in. While a lot of people don't think that "kids should have kids," a 16-year-old should be able to choose whether or not she wants to get an abortion. Sure, she's young and this could ruin her life, but there are plenty of young mothers who make it work and things end up just fine -- but a lot of those kids need support.
In the lawsuit, the teen is seeking a restraining order against her father for the duration of her pregnancy. She also wants the court to tell her parents to back off and not force her in to having an abortion.
Will the teen who sues her parents be able to keep her baby? Only time will tell.
