An 18-year-old was shot to death overnight, only a couple blocks away from the Atlanta police headquarters. And police hours later said they don’t know who shot the teen or why.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as Montavious Washington, of Atlanta.
Around 11 p.m., officers responded to 200 Trinity Ave., which is near the entrance to MARTA’s Garnett station, after getting a report of shots fired, according to Atlanta police.
When officers arrived they found the teen with a gunshot wound, police spokeswoman Officer Kim Jones said. He had been shot in the chest, police said.
“He was in an altercation with another subject down on Broad Street and was shot at that location and ran down and collapsed here on Trinity,” Atlanta police Capt. Jonathan Durant told Channel 2 Action News. It’s unclear what the altercation was about and police have not released a description of the suspect who had fled the scene by the time officers arrived.
Washington was transported by ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital where he died a short time later, Jones said.
Woman's Nude Body Found at Intersection in Atlanta
An officer on patrol found the nude body of a woman Tuesday afternoon off the roadway at an intersection in Atlanta. And investigators are trying to determine how the woman died and how her nude body ended up on the side of the road.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office said it has not yet identified the woman and an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday to help police determine if they are dealing with a homicide. But as of Tuesday, the woman’s death was a mystery.
The officer found the woman’s body just off the roadway at the intersection of Vine and Meldrum streets, according to Atlanta police.
“No obvious signs of foul play, but we can’t rule out anything,” said Capt. Paul Guerrucci, homicide commander for the Atlanta Police Department, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “There is a possibility that she was dumped, but it is also a possibility that she traveled down here and collapsed.”
The woman, whose age is estimated to be about 30, had not been there for more than a day, police said. Anyone with information about her identity or the case is asked to contact police.
