“Teen Mom” star Gary Shirley has been taking care of his daughter, Leah, during the time Amber Portwood was serving her time in jail. She chose jail time over getting some professional help with her anger management. She was gone for over a year, but it sounds like things won’t go back to the way they were before she went away. According to a new Radar Online report published on Jan. 1, “Teen Mom” star Gary Shirley is now revealing that he isn’t planning on giving Amber custody back.
“It’s going to stay the way it is, to protect Leah,” he has revealed. Gary gained full custody of Leah when Amber went away to jail. And while he can forgive Amber for the past, he won’t forget the drama. “Well, everyone knows that she went to jail for drugs and stuff,” he explains. “I’m not saying that she’ll ever get back into that, but I hear stories of how easy it is [to relapse] because that pressure is always there.”
One can imagine that he wants to protect Leah, but as long as Amber is around Leah and is a mother to her, things will be fine. And it sounds like the mother-daughter duo is doing well. “Leah’s excited!” Shirley reveals. “She’s glad that Mommy’s home. … Sometimes I let Leah stay the night over [with Portwood at her grandmother's] before school so her hair is all nicely done for school.”
What do you think of Amber not getting custody back?
