Tonight’s premiere of Teen Mom 3 opened with Briana out to eat with her mom, sister, and daughter Nova. Briana and her mom went shopping before returning to their house to discuss the government assistance they used to pay for their groceries.
Katie managed to graduate high school on time and was taking online classes for college, along with working part-time at a children’s clothing store. Her boyfriend, Joey, was still working a dangerous job in a coal mine, and Katie worried what would happen if he died.
Mackenzie and her boyfriend, Josh, are engaged, but they still live separately, at home with their parents. The couple went out for their anniversary dinner, and Mackenzie tried to ask questions about what they would do when they got married. Josh wasn’t excited about much, so Mackenzie brought their son, Gannon, over to Josh’s house the next day. Josh still didn’t have anything nice to say, so Mackenzie eventually ended up leaving, while Josh talked on the phone.
Alex had to give up high school and take online classes while working three jobs to try and get caught up. Her now ex-boyfriend, Matt, spent eight weeks in rehab and was coming home in two days, so she talked to her friend about his behavior. When Matt returned home, he focused on Arabella instead of the serious conversation Alex tried to have about their relationship.
Katie was frustrated to see her car had a giant dent in it – Joey’s aunt had apparently backed into it. This set the couple off into a big argument, and Joey just didn’t care. Katie and her sister went out for frozen yogurt. All Katie wanted was an “I’m sorry,” from Joey, and she added that she wanted things to go back to how they were before the couple had Molli.
Briana had a weak moment when talking to her sister, Brittany. Even though she had her mom and sister, Briana still wanted Nova to have a father. After Briana didn’t put Devoin’s name on Nova’s birth certificate, he took his vengeance out on her via Twitter, calling her names and making threats. Briana printed everything off and showed her mom – the two agreed they should take him to court.
Mackenzie talked to her sister, Kaylee, about her conversations with Josh and said they weren’t doing well. Kaylee reminded Mackenzie she needed to think about Gannon and if she wanted him to come from a broken home. Two days later, Josh finally came around while playing pool with his friends and sent Mackenzie a thoughtful text message, telling her he loved her and wanted to make things work.
Alex’s mom sat Matt down to talk to him about following rules in the house and chipping in with the responsibilities. After that, Matt started helping out a lot more with Arabella. Alex’s mom watched the baby so Alex and Matt could have a night out – the two went bowling before Matt asked to go get food from his favorite place in a terrible area. Matt got out of the car and came back with no food and not enough change, sending Alex into a mad rage when she thought he spent it on drugs.
Katie finally called the police about her car, and they were mad she hadn’t called the accident in right away, saying that was a good way to get a ticket. Once she got back inside, she and Joey talked and apologized for their fight.
Brittany watched Nova while Briana and her mom went to court to file an order of protection against Devoin. Briana, Brittany, and their mom also took an infant CPR class together before one of Briana’s friends came over for a walk. Briana filled her in on the court situation with Devoin.
Josh and Mackenzie spent some time together horseback riding, and Josh finally told her he wouldn’t be there if he didn’t love her. He thought once they would get married, everything would be all right.
Joey asked Katie if she wanted to go to dinner that night and told her his mom would watch Molli. She agreed to go, eager for a date night.
Mackenzie worked on getting back into shape with her tumbling. The next day, as Josh shoved a giant dip of chew into his mouth, Mackenzie scolded him and told him she wanted him to stop that. She posed the idea of the two of them living together, and Josh didn’t have much of an opinion. He was up for whatever.
Alex and Matt were getting along better, but Alex fell behind in school – only 252 assignments, no big deal. Her mom scolded her and reminded her how important it was to finish school and keep up with everything. Matt’s friend Rudy came over, and the two played basketball and discussed Matt’s life now. (Matt said he wasn’t having any fun). When Alex called him in so she could leave, she commented that he looked impaired, and her mom gave Matt an eye test.
Devoin went out with his friends and told them in a perfect world, he and Briana would still be in a relationship, but everything had “turned out for the worst.”
Mackenzie told her mom Josh was going to get a welding job before asking if Josh could move into the spare bedroom. Her mom wasn’t excited for the two to live together without being married. (Uh, lady? They have a baby. That line has been crossed). Her mom said it was a possibility, and she would talk to Mackenzie’s dad.
Katie went to get her make-up done for her big night. While she got ready, Joey dropped Molli off at his parents’ house and stopped by the restaurant to give the manager the engagement ring and asked if he could help him. Later on, over dinner, Katie made awkward conversation about missing Molli and feeling weird leaving her, before they finally brought out a slice of cheesecake that had the ring sitting on top of it. Josh picked the ring up, got on one knee, and proposed, so Katie said yes in one of the most anti-climactic proposals ever seen on television.
Devoin texted Briana about the two getting back together and working together as a family, which caused Briana to re-think her court-order decision.
Josh told Mackenze he didn’t get the welding job, and he wondered if he was still able to move in. He wasn’t sure if that was still something he wanted to do. As they discussed the situation over dinner at her house, Josh said he might wanted to move out on his own instead, which shocked Mackenzie and left her confused.
Alex worked and went to get a pedicure with a friend while Matt watched Arabella. She told her friend she wanted to trust him, but she just couldn’t. When Alex got home, her mom told her Rudy came back, and Matt left with him. Her mom had to go into the office and asked Alex not to flip out. So naturally, Matt got home and said Rudy’s car broke down, and Alex yelled at him. Her sister suggested she talk to Matt instead of just yelling at him, so Alex went to talk to Matt.
Briana and her mom headed to court, and Briana said she wasn’t sure if she should go through with everything. Her mom reminded her that she needed to make Devoin respect her as the mother of his child, but Briana (wearing sweatpants) ended up dismissing the order of protection.
