An 18 year old teen was alone, when he heard noises outside his home in the Mission Oaks neighborhood.on Friday afternoon. Two men banged on the front door but he refused to answer it. The two men then went around the house to a back door. The boy called his father, who gave him instructions. The men broke in and the teen opened fire, killing one man, and sending the other one on the run.
The son the called his father back and told him what had happened. Police Officer Ken Patmon., a 12 year veteran of the Houston Police Department, rushed home to make sure his son was not hurt.
"He called me and told me about it. Not long after that, two unknown suspects entered our home without permission."
"My son, trying to defend his home and himself, he discharged my firearm, striking one of the suspects."
Officer Warren, who was investigating the shooting said, "It's unfortunate that a life was taken, but at the same time, it's very fortunate that this guy had a way to defend himself."
The investigating officers believe the second suspect fled in a dark blue Nissan Sentra.
When asked if his son planned on being a policeman, Patmon told ABC that his son would be leaving soon for the Air Force.
