While Kirsten Dunst may prefer white nails with newspaper print, teen girls in Los Angeles and elsewhere are embracing their own take on the latest trend in nail technology.
Inexpensive, creative, and easy to change, funky painted nails are an easy way for teen girls to express their personal style. Parents aren’t likely to object because all it takes is a little nail polish remover and a teen can change her look from magnetic polish that gives nails an original abstract wave design after a magnet is held over the nails, to a cool gritty look by applying crackle polish over regular colored polish.
Other nail polish trends include painting the nails one color, and then painting a second color in a crescent shape next to the cuticle. Some girls prefer to buy inexpensive polish strips that apply directly to the nails. These come in a variety of patterns, including stripes, flowers, camouflage and freestyle designs.
Some girls like to paint a different design in the same color family on each nail, others create collages from print material, some like to add “bling” in the form of gold or silver sparkles, and some prefer nail decals applied with adhesive. Limited only by a teen’s imagination, this is an inexpensive, fun trend embraced by teens and sanctioned by parents.
