On Jan. 2 KSWT reported that a teen girl in Brazil enraged her small town of Sapeacu when she posted a YouTube video offering up her virginity. People of the town began to shun the girl, some even throwing things at her when she walked down the street. Rebecca Bernardo, the 18-year-old student in question feels that she has a valid reason to sell her virginity.
Right after her 18th birthday, Rebecca's mother suffered from a stroke that left her bed ridden and unable to do anything for herself including feeding or going to the bathroom alone as well as any medications involved with her aftercare. Rebecca is holding down two jobs, one at a cosmetics counter and the other as a waitress. The money she makes from working two full time jobs isn't enough to cover all her mother's medical expenses and the rest of their other every day expenses.
Rebecca has never known her father and her older sister died years ago. There is no other family for the two of them, nobody to go to and nobody to help. When Rebecca first posted the video it got 3,000 hits. She has received three bids so far, the highest for $35,000. A Brazilian television station told Rebecca that if she removes the video from the Internet that they will pay for her mother's care.
Rebecca's mother doesn't want her to sell her virginity just to care for her but Rebecca says that there comes a time when you have to make a decision to get what you want and you have to be strong, and that is what she is doing. She hasn't said whether or not she will take the TV station's deal or not, however, it is likely the best option as the care would be ongoing rather than whatever she could afford with a one time deal.
