Teen fashion designer to showcase her work at New York Fashion Week

A teen from Omaha will debut her clothing line at New York Fashion Week next month. The 16-year-old fashion designer spoke with KETV on Jan. 21. Kate Walz is already well-known in her own circles. She's been dubbed a "veteran" designer in her hometown of Omaha, Nebraska.

She's already showcased her designs six times during Omaha Fashion Week. Walz recalled the first time she was interested in fashion design. She said that she started sewing at 8 years old. By the time she was 12, she sold her designs in a local boutique.

Kate was invited to New York Fashion Week by someone on the Internet. They noticed her designs, and invited her to the twice a year event. She will showcase 30 of her pieces on Feb. 8.

She's not at the big leagues yet, though. It's an offsite fashion show. Walz is hoping that it will someday take her to the tents at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. She wants to get on a national level.

Kate Walz described her fall/winter 2013 collection as "New York in the 60s." The line includes black leather, deep red bodices and floral adorned dresses. She promises that her last piece will be a showstopper. The young teen dreams of showing her designs at Paris or Milan Fashion Week one day. The sky is the limit for her.
