Last month, according to investigators, a group of teens were present when a cat belonging to the brother of one of the boys was beat with a golf club, then set on fire.
One of the boys reported the incident to his grandfather, who called police.
The teens reportedly are students at Canal Winchester High School. One 17-year-old boy who had been accused of taking part in the cruelty has since left the school and is being home-schooled, according to ABC 6/FOX 28.
Fairfield County sheriff's deputies say there was not enough evidence against the other teens to charge them.
The cat died from the injuries. The official cause of death is being investigated by the Humane Society.
Note: The cat in the photo above is not the cat mentioned in this article. The photo is of Gina, an adoptable female cat at Friends For Life Animal Haven in Canal Winchester, Ohio. Gina and her sister, Stella, are looking for a home where they can remain together. They were surrendered when their adoptive family lost their home.
