Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month Ending with Ohio School Shooting

As Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month comes to an end 3 teenagers are dead and 2 additional wounded in a school shooting in Chardon, Ohio. Suspect JT Lang admitted to opening fire inside the cafeteria at Chardon High School in the morning hours on Monday.

Lang is not a student at the high school and it is unclear why he was there however early student reports were that one of the students shot is dating the suspects ex-girlfriend. While being interviewed by police Lang stated that the shooting was at random.

Lang has been raised in a violent household according to Geauga County court records showing that his father had been arrested many times for violent crimes against women.

According to the records, more than once, police or courts warned him to stay away from the boy and his mother.

The records say between 1995 and 1997, the boy's father and mother, Sara A. Nolan, were each charged with domestic violence against each other.

At a later date, the father was charged with assaulting a police officer and served time in prison after trying to suffocate another woman he married several years after his son was born, according to court records.

Lang has been held for 15 days pending Prosecutors filing charges and the decision on whether or not Land will be charged in a juvenile or adult court. Ohio has a death penalty Lane would not be eligible for capital punishment if he were to be convicted of murder here -- the Supreme Court precluded that sentencing option is not available for people who are under 18 when they murder.
