An 18-year-old was charged Friday in a shooting that left another man dead at an apartment complex where they both lived in Brookhaven.

Carlos Ramirez was charged with murder in the death of 23-year-old Justin Acevedo, according to Brookhaven police. He was also charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, they said.

With his arrest, detectives also found marijuana and the firearm they believe was used in the shooting after serving a search warrant at 1535 North Cliff Valley Way, spokesman Maj. Brandon Gurley said.

The shooting happened shortly before noon on Thursday on North Cliff Way near Coosawattee Drive, Gurley said.

Officers arrived at the scene to find Acevedo lying on the side of the roadway with a gunshot wound to the chest, Gurley said. He was transported to an Atlanta hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators said Ramirez and Acevedo were arguing when the shooting happened, though it's unclear what they were arguing about.

Both lived at the Parke Town North Apartments where the shooting happened, Gurley said.

Witnesses told police they saw a group of people running after the shooting, including the suspect, Gurley said.

Officers detained Ramirez and three others they believe were involved in the shooting, Gurley said. The other three have also been charged.

Ileanna Martinez, 21, was charged with tampering with evidence, possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce and false name and date of birth, Gurley said. Both Petra Pineda Cortez, 18 and Francisco Munoz, 22, were charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction of law enforcement, Gurley said.

All four suspects were transported to the DeKalb County jail, police said.
