Some people should really never be parents, and it is apparent that this Michigan couple is likely one of them as NY Daily News reports on April 19. Susan Bardo and her boyfriend Carl Pelinen are being charged with locking Susan Bardo's 15-year-old son in an 8'x10' room while sexually and physically abusing and torturing the boy for four years.

The room was made up of tarps nailed to the floor and ceiling with only a space heater to warm the place. The boy, whose name isn't being shared because of his age, was occasionally allowed out his room, to the stairs nearby, to eat. Both Carl and Susan are being held for torture, child abuse, and criminal sexual assault. The boy was found when a relative became suspicious that she hadn't seen or heard from the teen in several months. The teen was taken to the hospital for treatment and has been placed in protective services.

The couple had been telling neighbors that the boy was down state living with his father. When police raided the home, they were surprised that there was anyone else living in the home because there were never toys, bikes, or friends coming by the home.

Investigators are looking for any of the boy's relatives to speak with about the situation. The couple is currently being held in the Delta County Jail on $50,000 bond.
