Original article:
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel reacted to the beating and robbery of a Chicago teenager from the Bridgeport neighborhood. The mayor said that this incident does not represent the good people of Chicago. Yet, one who follows the Chicago news closely knows that beatings, robberies, and shootings – sometimes murderous in nature – occur far too frequently in the city.

Emanuel’s reaction, along with other high-profile city officials including Chicago’s Superintendent of Police Garry McCarthy, came after the beating of the teen was posted online on YouTube. Online postings of crime in the city with their accompanying negative publicity are what deservedly get the outcry of the officials in Chicago.
On Sunday afternoon, the 17-year-old’s horrendous beating was recorded by an apparent accomplice of the group of six attackers.
The attackers, most of whom were wearing masks, hit the victim with chunks of ice and then hit and kicked him in the head when he was down. The boy being beaten appears to be of Asian descent, and the gang of attackers was yelling derogatory racial comments at him. However, some of the attackers are reportedly Asian as well.
Somehow, the attacked-teen escaped, was treated at a nearby hospital for non-severe injuries, and released.
By Tuesday, Chicago Police were reportedly speaking with six persons involved with the attack which occurred in the alley behind the James Ward Elementary School at 2701 South Shields on Chicago’s South Side in the Bridgeport neighborhood.
