Yesterday afternoon, a 17 year old boy was arrested for the murder of Anna Hurd. Anna's body was found on February 23rd along the walking path of Hillside Park in Maplewood. http://www.ci.maplewood.mn.us/index.aspx?NID=179
Anna had died as the result of multiple stab wounds. The park was cordoned off, and a witness reported that he had seen a young man, about 5'9" with blond spiky hair leaving the area. While authorities are not releasing the suspect's name, Hurd's family has said that it is Anthony Michael, who was Anna's boyfriend.
On Thursday, a funeral service was held for Anna at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in North St Paul. Today, Anna's family returned her body to her original home state of Texas.
Yesterday, the B52 Slider Squad Food Truck held a fundraiser at the Maplewood Rainbow Foods to benefit the Hurd family. https://www.facebook.com/B52SliderSquad?ref=stream
Anna's mother expressed her shock and sadness, also saying that she couldn't believe this happened because she had treated Anthony Michael as if he was one of the family. Anna's father lamented the fact that although Michael can continue to receive visits from his family while he is in jail, the only way that he can visit his daughter is by going to the cemetary.
The arrested 17 year-old will be housed in the Juvenile Detention Center while he awaits his time in court.http://www.co.ramsey.mn.us/cc/jdc_frequently_asked_questions.htm
This arrest comes less than a week after the death of another Minnesota woman, Kira Trevino, whose husband is the primary suspect in her death.
