Authorities in Oklahoma have arrested Henry ‘Hank’ Laird, 17, on Wednesday for beating his mother to death.
According to the Huffington Post, this teenager took his shotgun and used the butt of that firearm to batter his own mother.
Later, police spent 20 minutes trying to convince Laird to surrender. KRMG has reported that Laird was “laughing” and “smiling” when he was taken into custody in south Tulsa.
Officer Jill Roberson told Tulsa World he is glad this teenager has been captured. "There has already been one tragedy out of this. We definitely did not want another one."
The victim, Linda Laird, 56, was found dead Tuesday morning at the “bottom of a staircase in her home,” said Huffington News.
The Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's Office explained that this mother suffered "blunt force trauma to the head and neck" and described her death as a homicide, according to CBS.
Before arresting Laird, police took Josiah Israel Sklar into custody. “Sklar, Laird's alleged accomplice, told police he was present Monday night when the suspect allegedly bludgeoned his mother to death with the thick end of a shotgun.”
Sklar said he did not contact the police to report the crime because he was afraid of Laird. However, Sklar said he provided a pillow for the victim when she was barely alive. Then he went back to sleep.
“Arrest reports say Laird struck his mother at least 20 times using the weapon, FOX 23 reports. Laird is charged with first-degree murder.”
