A teen was shot multiple times and killed late Wednesday night in the parking lot of a DeKalb County gas station – and police believe they may know who shot him and why.
But Thursday afternoon they declined to release the suspect’s name.
The shooting happened around 11:15 p.m. at 4467 Glenwood Road in Decatur, according to DeKalb County police.
“Someone heard the gunshots and then saw the victim in the parking lot,” police spokesman Capt. Steven Fore said. “They didn’t actually see the shooting.”
The person called 911 and officers arrived to find the 18-year-old dead at the scene, police said. Someone had shot Mr. Quantavious Armstrong three times in the upper body, Capt. Fore said.
Detectives said they are following up on strong leads and believe they have identified a possible suspect.
“Detectives believe an ongoing dispute between the victim and the suspect may have prompted the shooting,” police spokeswoman Ms. Mekka Parish said.
They declined to release any details on the dispute, but said it had been going on for several days.
Early Thursday, friends of the teen stopped by the crime scene to add items to a growing memorial to the victim, according to a media report.
