Tee Martin may return to Big Orange Country.....at last

With Butch Jones now in place and ready to start his “dream job” as the 24th football coach of the Tennessee Volunteers, it is time to assemble a staff. All of last season’s staff were released, with the lone exception of former Vol Jay Graham, who will remain on staff to coach the running backs.

Another former Vol may soon join Graham.

Former Tennessee quarterback Tee Martin, who led the Vols to the 1998 national championship, was in Knoxville on Monday to meet with Coach Jones. Martin spent last season on Lane Kiffin's staff at USC as the Trojans' receivers coach. He has also held the same position for two seasons at Kentucky, and was QB coach at New Mexico in 2009.

Coach Jones clearly realizes the importance of reaching out to former players, especially those who are as beloved as Tee Martin and Jay Graham. But, these are not hires just for the sake of appearance. Both Martin and Graham are highly respected recruiters and position coaches. They would be an asset to any staff, but are especially well-suited to be clad in orange.

Let’s hope that Tee Martin does the right thing and accepts the position that Coach Jones has offered. His return to Knoxville is long overdue.
