TED2014 says: “Hello, Vancouver”

Change can be good, especially when the most brilliant mind gathers together in an effort to change the world for the better; this is what TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) is all about. For past five years, TEDsters have enjoyed the sunny weather that has been provided to them by SoCal in Long Beach and Palm Spring, but that’s about to change. On February 5th, TED announced that next year’s 30th anniversary conference will be taking place in Vancouver, Canada.

Founded in 1984, TED has become one of the most influential conferences of our time, gathering the most prestigious experts of different industries that all have a common goal in mind: changing the world. Past presenters includes former president Bill Clinton, Google founder Larry Page, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and many others that have revered those in their respective industries and have earned respect as global icons for change.

TED2014’s conference theme is “The Next Chapter.” “We'll be seeking to understand what are truly the most significant developments of the last 30 years ... and applying that knowledge to understand what's ahead. The theme makes it easy for us to reach out to the world's greatest minds and challenge them to help shape a program better than any in our history,” Chris Anderson, the curator for TED, stated in an email announcement.

TEDActive, a satellite conference that runs parallel with TED Conferences, will be moving to Whistler, one of the best ski resorts in the world, as well as the home of the 2010 Winter Olympics. TEDActive costs a lot less, and it will also be a lot more convenient for winter activities. TEDActive also sparks more conversations among attendees in a more comfortable environment.

The change is both active and engaging; it brings a different pace and vibe. The sunny SoCal turns into a winter scene as the active running around the beach will be replaced with skiing down on a slope. The atmosphere and mindset of being an American will finally get to experience its Canadian counterpart.

The registration for TED2014 will open next week. The base level pricing for TED stays the same. However, TED is known for selling out a year before the actual conference. If you believe that you can contribute in making the world a better place, you will meet others who are not only willing to help, but are also willing to collaborate on coming up with “ideas that are big enough to change the world.”
