A December 15, 2013 story in the Washington Examiner reports that a Rasmussen Poll indicates that Texas Senator Ted Cruz is the third most influential leader in the world, behind only number one pick Pope Francis and number two pick President Barack Obama.
Cruz was picked by 11 percent of respondents. Pope Francis topped the list at 23 percent and President Obama came next at 21 percent.
The list of other winners seems to suggest a broad definition of the term “leader” as it includes Edward Snowden (8 percent), Miley Cyrus (2 percent), Kate Middleton (2 percent), Kayne West, Lebron James, and George Zimmerman (less than 1 percent each.)
Cruz won a come from behind race for United States Senate from Texas and has since become a conservative icon in the upper body, conducting fights against Obama administration policies such as immigration reform, gun control, and above all Obamacare. Cruz famously conducted a 21 hour filibuster in support of cutting off funding for Obamacare and was blamed for the subsequent government shutdown. However since the disastrous Obamacare rollout, some have suggested that Cruz has been vindicated.
