As Hot Air noted on October 18, 2013, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas recently mused that he did not come to Washington to make friends, even among his fellow senators. However he seems to have inspired a number of people who want to put him in jail or even to kill him.
Byron York wrote in the Washington Examiner that a number of liberals want Cruz charged with sedition and put in jail for his role in the government shut down. This may be more a commentary on the fascistic nature of modern liberalism, as described in Jonah Goldberg’s classic book “Liberal Fascism.” The argument coming from the left that political disagreement should be a criminal matter is an old one, something that has manifested, for example, in the use of the IRS as a political weapon against the tea party.
The Hill, however, reports a more ominous threat, by a man on twitter who would like to see Senator Cruz killed, even giving out his home address for people who might want to do that. The authorities are taking the threat seriously.
Presidents of the United States, including the current one, are regularly threatened with death. That is why we have a Secret Service. Cruz is said to have presidential ambitions. It looks like he is part of the way there. Some of his enemies want to take him out.
