If you haven't seen, newly-minted Senator Ted Cruz is getting a lot of attention in Washington, DC, and rightly so. He is making waves by saying he will propose a bill to repeal "every syllable of every word" of the Obamacare legislation. He already was lectured by Wolf Blitzer of CNN after saying he would have voted against the fiscal cliff "deal" a few days ago.
And, as a Texan, I could not be more proud. He is clearly gutsy of the caliber of Senator Lee of Utah and Senator Rubio of Florida. I can't wait to watch his senate career.
I am someone who in 2011 was defending Boehner for the deal struck on the debt ceiling negotiations (the first time). I still do not have the same angst against the Speaker as some since I do think that being in a leadership role in the House requires some amount of finesse on his part. That said, I am grateful for all of the conservative members who have the guts to stand strong. The President has taken a mile when given an inch, he has not followed through with his own cry for "balance" in these deals, and he has shown a complete disrespect for what the conservatives are trying to do, which is finally make a lasting change to the direction we are heading fiscally, which continues to be unsustainable.
So, new blood like Senator Cruz is exactly what the Senate needs even if the GOP does not have the majority.
