The confirmation that Mr. Cruz would attend didn’t come until Thursday the 16th. From there King Street Patriots sent out Emails to it members with a request to RSVP in anticipation of a large crowd. The meeting was scheduled to start at 7PM. But the line to enter began at 2PM. a full 5 hours prior to the scheduled appearance. From there it grew to well over a thousand with a line that extended well past the property and down the street. It was estimated that the normal warehouse meeting room contained 1000 people in doors with an additional 500 plus just outside the overhead doors where a large big screen was set up for the outside attendees to watch Ted’s speech.
Also in attendance was most of the major national and local media outlets with their trucks parked all over the back parking area. The media was there for Ted Cruz but the previously scheduled meeting event was a meet and greet of the local candidates for this years election which as side note is Texas’s first election with required voter ID. The local candidates got bonus exposure to a huge crowd with major media coverage, thanks to Senator Cruz. Voter ID law came to be law in Texas largely due to the efforts of King Street Patriots and it’s sister organization, True the Vote. Besides the media coverage King Street broadcast their meetings live via their web site at, www.kingstreetpatriots.org .
The meeting started in its normal Monday night fashion with founder Catherine Engelbrecht briefly speaking to the crowd before introducing Rafael Cruz to lead the people in the weekly opening prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and capped off with a founders quote. From there local radio personality and former city council member Michael Berry was brought on stage to introduce Senator Cruz. After the extended standing ovation Senator Cruz received a vigorous applause for lines like. “At the end of the day, I don’t work for the party bosses in Washington.” He went on to mention that nearly 2.1 million Americans went to the site www.dontfundit.com to sign a petition to defund Obamacare. Senator Cruz fired up the audience with 20 minutes of patriotic speaking that ranged from the Washington establishment not listening to the people, gun control, immigration, and to stopping Obamacare. Senator Cruz announced a web site named www.makedclisten.org which is a site for real people’s stories of how Obamacare has affected their lives.
Even after leaving the stage Senator Cruz didn’t immediately leave, he stayed for at least 15 to 20 minutes talking with and taking pictures with those in attendance who made their way to the front left of the stage before exiting the building. The entire speech can be seen at, http://www.vimeo.com/77512064 King Street Patriots and True the Vote continue their quest for a better America and this past Monday night is just another example of their fine patriotic work as a grassroots group of Americans’ who care about God, country, and family.
